Goldfishes in Christmas lights

There is the rare museum named "ART AQUARIUM Museum GINZA" in Tokyo.
We can see the exhibition of goldfishes there, in the designed space with arranged Japanese traditional culture as a motif.November 29, 2022, Winter version of the exhibition began (until December 26,2022).

This time, goldfishes are swimming with Christmas lights and decorations.Exhibitions of Art Aquarium had held not only at the museum but many places in japan, Milano and Shanghai before. However,It is the first time to exhibited in Christmas mood.

I was suspicious about matching between motif of Japanese traditional culture and Christmas. However, this exhibition was interesting, actually. We enter the space to find many Japanese style lantern which is like ones we can see in some temples. Besides the lanterns, we find 3D Christmas tree in the snow, too. This situation indicates that we are in the virtual place beyond our common sense. After walking through among the lanterns, we can see the path. There are aquariums along the path and star shaped Christmas lights are hunged from the ceiling. They invite us into more fantastic world.

We can feel the story behind this exhibition, like getting lost in the strange town and found a Magical Japanese style house. I felt some element of haunted house also.

If you know some of Japanese culture, you will love Shouji or Kiriko motif. Shouji is the window made by Japanese paper.Kiriko is traditional technic to shape glass.

On the other hand, my recommend is the area named "A show of Kingyo" which you can see many various goldfishes from the top directly without glas.I realized how beautiful goldfishes' shades are. They are just like lacework. And I felt comfortable to gaze goldfishes are moving, while hearing sound of water.

The goldfish's origins date back to nearly 2000 years, in China. They have been continually bred for ornamental purposes. Their beauty includes fragility.I feel a kind of guilt to pursue beauty, when I see goldfish.

If you can go to this museum, you should check the souvenir shop too.Very popular Japanese sweets (sweet bean jelly or chocolate and so on) are gathered and each sweets shop made special versions for this museum. They are tasty and look so beautiful.
