I difinetely believe that any people can enjoy Japanese street food
However, it is not only enjoyable about Takoyaki which is one of popular foods.
Although Japanese who are well known as gentle people, they have enthusiasm to argue about the difference of Takoyaki in Tokyo and Osaka.



I am living in Tokyo and want to say that people in Osaka will win, for may safe. Takoyaki shops in Tokyo tend to advertise that we can provide you with Osaka taste Takoyaki.

Even in Tokyo, we can have tasty Takoyaki. However, if a people from Osaka eat it , their face must be like “Hmmm....” . Or they might not even eat it. Their voice in their heart would sound like “ Go to Osaka and try them”.


According to the book about western Japanese culture, end of Taisho period, children in Osaka loved to eat“Choboyaki”which is said to be the origins of Takoyaki. It is not a sphere but connected each other like a sheet. In "Choboyaki", there were chopped cabbage and dried sea weeds and so on, it was soy sauce taste. "Choboyaki" had been changed into "Radio-yaki" and one shop named "Aiduya" put octopus in them. It was the first Takoyaki. After World War Ⅱ, It changed to Sauce taste, spread to everywhere in Japan.

Now , I recognize that Tokyo-style takoyaki is crunchy on the outside.On the other hand, Osaka-style Takoyaki is soft and runny and base is tasted with Dashi (Japanese soup stock) . I often eat Tokyo-style one in “ Tsukiji Gindaco” which has many branch in Tokyo. However, according to website of “Gindaco”, the first shop opened in Gunma pref. Now I doubt that I can call it Tokyo style clearly. I was surprised that they branches in Osaka, even in Bangkok and Los Angels.

It’s getting serious thing because people who eat Takoyaki at first time would recognize it as traditional one. I’m a fan of Takoyaki of Gindaco, however, I felt strange when I ate it at the first time. I felt a little too crunchy outside because they use much oil and it was like deep fried stuff. The more I eat them, the more I loved them and I forgot the strange feeling. Come to think of it, in the first place, starting with Osaka, there are so many Takoyaki shop now . It might be difficult to suggest one and only Takoyaki. Street foods develop and become popular on the street and it get derived into many variations. That's why I love street foods. Now I come to the conclusion like “ Just try them in Tokyo, Osaka, Los or somewhere.”
